Tina Nguyen is a long-time surfer and committed driver of sustainability. She holds a bachelor’s degree in geography and Spanish from UC Santa Barbara and a master’s degree from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. Tina focused her master’s research specifically on surfing events, comparing sustainability practices at major contests in Jeffreys Bay and on the North Shore, Hawaii. After a 4 year endeavor in South Africa, she has embraced her Southern California roots and now enjoys consulting in the waste management industry. She also contributes her sustainability knowledge to the World Surf League through research on environmental news and policy writing on best practices in waste management. Tina is always curious to explore what sustainability means for different people in different places and is driven by her mission to create tangible benefits for people and the environment.
